Not so long ago in the aftermath of 9/11, Americans united to fight evil abroad, which at the time used God to vilify and demonize the West. Look closely at our politics today and you will see the same thing happening with extremist Christian nationalists using God to demonize everyone who does not believe in separation of church and state. Folks, the Christian nationalists have learned from Taliban, ISIS, and al-Qaeda the methods by which you invoke God to your side with one goal in mind: How to gain illegitimate powers while demonizing your opponent and turn them into villainous devils. Welcome to the world left behind by the extremist Donald Trump.
Take a look at this ad below by Ron DeSantis claiming God chose him to lead this country. You be the judge of what ensues next when the American people view him as sanctified by none other than God to be their leaders. It’s a one-two punch of cultism like this country has never seen before using the same tactics and methods extremist Islamist organizations used to attract support and impose absolute and blind loyalty.
This ad is no different than an appearance by an extremist Muslim leader invoking God to strike fear into the hearts of Muslims. Both have the same goal in mind even though DeSantis ad lacks the crudeness of a Taliban imposing loyalty and fealty.
“We speak for God, so let us worry about what is good for your life” is the message the GOP is embracing with Ron DeSantis and Herschel Walker.
IT’S HAPPENING WITH HERSCHEL WALKER AS WELL
Herschel Walker, who is running for Senator in the State of Georgia, is using similar tactics by claiming he was “saved by Grace” as if God has forgiven all his sins and, again, chose him to be the next Senator. For those who have followed Islamic extremism emanating from the Middle East (we have), they will find a remarkable parity with the messages Muslims heard from their extremist leaders cloaking themselves with God.
The Christian nationalists have learned from Taliban how to imitate their methods by demanding sanctified loyalty through fear of God. It is so much more efficient, given how uninformed a GOP rural voter is, to ask someone to follow their leaders as if they were Gods than to ask them to vote for them for their policies. A GOP Senator or Governor can lie so much about telling poor rural Americans they care for them while at the same time take Pharma money to send them appeasements messages.
Invoking God, as Muslim extremists did, resolves this paradox. “We speak for God, so let us worry about what is good for your life” is the message the GOP is embracing with Ron DeSantis and Herschel Walker. Soon enough, if successful, it would become the blueprint for many of the GOP candidates running for office, which will turn this country into a bastion of a Taliban-like Christian nationalism.
God to garner votes, and God to demonize all the other tribes in our diverse universe. That’s the new Christian nationalism in our midst today.
WHAT HAPPENED TO SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE?
From our perspective, this separation is just hollow and meaningless as politicians are invoking God at an alarming rate. Christian nationalists are totally ignoring this jurisprudence and encroaching on the secular state from all sides.
Why? Because conjuring God with the masses saves money on advertisement and spending during campaigns to explain policies and positions. If the GOP can steer millions of people towards a religious message of submission, the GOP would fare much better than to fight explaining their policy choices.
This is why Christian nationalism is on the rise. It’s a shorter route to power if God becomes their calling card.
With Trump about to announce his run for 2024 and DeSantis gearing up to run his own campaign, the above DeSantis ad is a prelude to how the DeSantis campaign would look like. A series of speeches and appearances that many of us who have heard and read the words of extremist Muslims invoke God would find too many similarities for our comfort.
God to garner votes, and God to demonize all the other tribes in our diverse universe. That’s the new Christian nationalism in our midst today.
Stay tuned for more.
