Just as Putin interfered in our elections in 2016 to help his agent Donald Trump reach the apogee of American power, it seems that Mohammad bin Salman has declared war on the United States and the Biden Administration by interfering in our U.S. midterms 2022 elections as he borrows from Vladimir Putin’s playbook. He did so by decreasing oil production by 2 million barrels a day, which will impact prices at the pump. And considering both men have developed a close relationship driven by their violence to murder their opponents, it is very likely both are coordinating their activities to punish the United States directly and severely.
In effect, with his move to lower OPEC production by 2 million barrels a day, Mohammad bin Salman has declared war on western civilization in the U.S. and especially Europe. What will both do about him seems to be taking a serious turn as both Congress and the media seem to be taking a harder line than usual against the Saudi monarchy, and in particular against Mohammad bin Salman, a known murderer who dismembers his victims.
In fact, one of his most prominent victims was a journalist for the Washington Post, which made him a pariah in the eyes of every journalist and reporter in the United States. The dummy did not think through his actions when he embarked on giving the order to kill Jamal Kashoggi.
His [Brett McGurk] very presence on the staff of the White House has become a grave danger to our security.
LET THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME
Whether the National Security apparatus is drawing plans to effectively clip MBS wings remains to be seen. Needless to say that posting people like Brett McGurk to the National Security staff is not helping. He is the architect behind President Biden traveling to Saudi Arabia to meet with MBS. His very presence on the staff of the White House has become a grave danger to our security.
Considering that MBS has declared war on the United States by his attempt to interfere in our mid-term elections, what might we consider appropriate as punishment for his crime? What plans do we have in store for MBS? The fact that Adel al-Jubair appeared on Fox News, which in and by itself is a message to Biden, to declare that oil is not a weapon, speaks volumes about the arrogance of Mohammad bin Salman. He really believes that Biden does not have the balls to punish him. In that regard, he may be right.
It would probably take Biden few weeks to construct a response, which, by then, might too little too late. Biden’s indecisiveness is truly legendary.
It’s also time to fire people like Brett McGurk. Indirectly, his policy of rapprochement prompted OPEC to drop its oil production.
ISRAELI ROLE
The United States has many options on the table to punish Mohammad bin Salman. But first, it must ignore the appeals of the Israelis and their lobbying. You see, Israel needs MBS as an ally against the danger of Iran. It needs his airbases and cooperation, which MBS has agreed to offer. All MBS can do is send a message to Israel that if they do not protect his hide in Washington, he might just abandon the secret agreements he signed with Israel.
This is reason number one why MBS has escaped American accountability. He has powerful friends supporting him secretly in Washington.
However, instead of playing that game of who needs whom more, maybe the U.S. and Israel can play a different game called “Abandon Saudi Arabia to Iran”. Then see how fast MBS will pivot to take orders from the U.S. instead of delivering his to the Biden Administration. This is a game of poker and those with the straight face will win it.
So far, it seems Mohammad bin Salman has constructed one winning hand after another because of lack of will to play at his level.
It’s time to change policy on Saudi Arabia. It’s also time to fire people like Brett McGurk. Indirectly, his policy of rapprochement prompted OPEC to drop its oil production. To our detriment and those of our European allies.
