As an internationalist who dipped his feet in the Mediterranean, his hands in the Pacific, and swam in the Atlantic for so many years, I can tell you that, of the many countries I lived in or visited, no people admire their Constitution like the American people, but, at the same time, no politicians desecrate their Constitution like U.S. politicians.
As we watched the trial of former President Donald J. Trump, it was, therefore, no surprise, to hear the House Managers refer to this sacred document as they made their case. Even though 43 GOP Senators did not much think of the Constitution when they chose to give future Presidents a “January Exception”. In that regard, we hope Americans who love this sacred document might select better politicians to represent them next elections cycle.
Surely, the rest of the country may have felt that some of our lawmakers desecrating it by acquitting Donald Trump may have gone too far in abdicating their duties. My hope, at least, that many voters would come to realize that these fascist idiots do not reflect how Americans feel in general towards their Constitution.
But I am not holding my breath, either.
Love of country dictates we respect the words that glue it all together, under the law, to protect everyone as equally.
TRUMP COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION
Trump led the country outside the realm of our Constitution. While we all revere the words that our Founding Fathers embedded in history, Trump treated it as a ticket to justify his illegal conduct and send his mob to storm the Capitol. Calling his incitement a First Amendment right is so offensive and so insidious to the rest of us.
In fact, we know for certainty that he has never read the Constitution before. How come we know that? Like most uninformed people, Trump never reads. All his intellectual ideas come from the birdbrains he watches on TV spewing hate and racism. People like Laura “shut-up and dribble” Ingraham, one of the most odious TV presenters in the history of television.
How can the American people, which attaches so much importance to the Amendments of the Constitution vote for someone who never read it? That says a lot about us.
Maybe Trump’s voters did not know this before, but no excuse going forward. Love of country dictates we respect the words that glue it all together, under the law, to protect everyone as equally.
It is always been about political convenience, and not the law that politicians bend to suit their short-term tunnel visions.
WE LOVE THE CONSTITUTION BUT OUR POLITICIANS DESECRATE IT OFTEN
What troubles me the most are the 43 Senators who acquitted Trump. They placed political expedience ahead of country, and their own self-interests ahead of the Constitution. Some, like the scorpion Mitch McConnell, voted to acquit, but simultaneously attacked Trump for the insurrection he incited. Why is this troubling, you might ask? Because the politicians we are voting for don’t know right from wrong, or make hash brown out of both depending on the convenience of the moment.
Honestly, we must do better to vet each and every nihilistic politician we vote into office. Hear that Kentucky? Your McConnell and Paul choices reek of total ignorance. No politicians desecrate the Constitution like those two.
It is always been about political convenience, and not the law that politicians bend to suit their short-term tunnel visions. Why do we let them get away with lying, cheating, flipping on issues like well-trained dogs obeying their instincts for surviving another term in office? Why is accountability with regard of not desecrating the Constitution so difficult to administer when politicians show their sharp teeth behind fake smiles?
We must do better as a nation and as people with the power to vote into office representatives who place country ahead of their elections. Short of that, we will always suffer another Trump and his 43 GOP enablers.
