The guilty verdict 12 jurors delivered had an immediate impact. From a simple sense of served justice to a more complex global standing of a nation healing from racist overtones; but what the verdict delivered, most of all, is that testing the life of our consciousness through our humanity in its most admirable of forms remains a core principle of American life.
We dread to see an animal suffer and the verdict showed the world that we dread even more to see humans suffer regardless of any bias. When George Floyd landed under the full weight of the murderer Derek Chauvin, he became the hero underdog of all underdogs. Everyone took the side of George Floyd thus imposing their own collective humanity above all the demagoguery of racism and bigotry. They prevailed because George Floyd, at the end, prevailed in delivering a blow to blatant police racism now fully on display painting the canvas of pain most people of color experience at some point in their lives.
Let all who saw evil in Derek Chauvin’s murder rejoice today because they smothered that evil with a thousand wishes for true justice, and justice did prevail.
Personally, I think we should subject every lawmaker or politician running for office for a basic psychological and EQ tests to qualify them to run for that office. Today, any psychopath off the street can run.
HEARTLESS REPUBLICANS ARE IMMOVABLE
You know the tests when a psychiatrist measures a patient emotions on the basis of what their eyes see? In layman’s terms, it’s called EQ or Emotional Intelligence. As opposed to the well-known IQ.
I wonder if we test all 50 Republican Senators for their EQ what the findings might look like. Because as far as the majority are concerned, they refuse to consider the already passed H.R. 7120 George Floyd Justice in Policing Act 2020 holding police accountable for their brutality and illegal behavior. To ALL the Republicans in the Senate, the deliberate murder of George Floyd at the hand of your average policeman is just a bad apple. Their organized racist views is keeping this country divided in two halves.
They refuse to act even while the police continues to kill black and brown children as if Chauvin’s trial was never taking place.
Personally, I think we should subject every lawmaker or politician running for office for a basic psychiatry and EQ tests to qualify them to represent us. Today, any psychopath off the street can run. Look no further than Marjorie Taylor Greene, a medieval lawmaker with a bird brain.
I would imagine, if we apply the EQ tests, many lawmakers in both Houses would fail to qualify.
Put the pressure on Joe Manchin in ways he falls in line with the President’s agenda. It is an opportunity the President is missing and which he will regret deeply later.
TESTING THE LIFE OF OUR CONSCIOUSNESS
The 12 brave jurors who delivered the verdict wrote an American tale worthy of our history. However, as long as the various police departments and their police unions run like rogue trigger-happy douche bags, it is far from over. In America, the police is totally out of control and our white supremacist GOP lawmakers could care less if they continue to kill people of color.
President Joe Biden and V.P. Kamala Harris delivered a memorable speech after the verdict in which they pressed for our lawmakers to steer the country in the right direction. George Floyd matter remains a hot topic almost a year after the tragedy of his murder, and the time to press all the buttons to make sure that our laws hold the police accountable is now. We miss this opportunity, it may never happen again.
The same is true of H.R. 1 For The People Act of 2021, which reforms our election and voting systems, and provides a measure of control back to the people again. Like a true democracy should work.
Senator Joe Manchin has indicated he is unwilling to vote for any new Reconciliation bills even though such option was made possible by a Senate rule. This unwillingness to play ball is a power trip the Democrats need to warn him about by running ads in West Virginia. Let West Virginians decide whether H.R.1 and H.R.7120 serve their interests. Put the pressure on Joe Manchin in ways he falls in line with the President’s agenda.
It is an opportunity the President is missing and which he will regret deeply later.
