So far, by early May 2023, there has been 199 mass shootings in the U.S. That’s 1.59 intentionally-violent shooting every day whose aim is to kill as many people as the shooter can. It is the result of uncontrollable gun sales, which have doubled in the last 20 years, in addition to a powerful gun lobby that steers our legislators away from any sensible gun laws to halt the great American gun violence epidemic that every day citizens are enduring. Most of these legislators are, of course, Republicans, which is beginning to register among Republican women voters who are witnessing first-hand the violence take the lives of their own children.
In 2021, Americans purchased almost 20 million guns. The second-highest sales figure ever on record. Combined with Republican efforts to block any spending on mental illnesses, and the results explain the great American gun violence epidemic. It’s a one-two punch and a reminder how deadly the GOP’s apathy and conspiracy has contributed to the rise of mass shootings.
Americans are even hearing the bullets ring in their ears as more and more videos record the mass shootings. It’s like every American living room has turned into a war zone.
THE AMERICAN GUN VIOLENCE EPIDEMIC
The United States has been plagued by mass shootings for decades, leaving many Americans, whether touched by violence or not, feeling overwhelmed and helpless.
Every day, there’s news of another mass shooting in the US. Whether it’s a school, a concert, or a place of worship, these senseless acts of violence are becoming all too common. Staying positive in the face of mass shootings is becoming an impossible task that is beginning to touch millions of Americans, either directly or indirectly.
The nth degree of separation, it seems to many, as the impact of gun violence inflicts painful reminders of what our nation has become, is blurring the line between close reality and distant event.

And damn all the studies that say the United States has the highest rate of gun violence among developed countries, and it is directly related to the easy accessibility of guns.
GUN VIOLENCE AND GUN LOBBY
There is no better direct relationship between cause and effect than the aligning of the gun violence America is experiencing with the gun lobby’s chokehold on cowardly Republicans unwilling to represent the will of their voters. Most of whom would like to see stricter laws on background checks, ban of assault rifles, and red flag laws; however, organizations, like the NRA, has staked its reputation on a controversial notion, which states that any gun restrictions today, no matter how mundane, become a slippery slope for total ban in the future.
So the mass shootings continue just because the NRA “thinks”, defiantly and non-factually, that the U.S. Government wants to remove all firearms regardless of the Second Amendment. A theory that is just a concept, and not evidenced by any facts.

Unless one of their Senators suddenly lose a grand child to a mass shooting. Then, America has a chance.
INFLUENCE OVER REPUBLICANS
One gem of the gun lobby’s influence over Republican politics has been to aggressively back laws that allow people to carry guns in public places, including schools and churches. Even if such measures have only led to more gun violence and mass shootings, as seen in several incidents across the country.
While the United States is a country that cherishes individual rights, the right to bear arms should not come at the expense of mass public safety. It is essential to acknowledge the relationship between gun violence and the gun lobby.
Will the Republican Party act to stop the mass murder of innocent people? We doubt very much any of their representatives would put the welfare of the people against their own selfish quest for power.
