The Despicable Duo Stand Against the January 6 Commission

Although they agreed to certain terms for a bipartisanship commission to find the answers we all are looking for surrounding the events that led to the insurrection of January 6, the Republican Party backtracked on agreed upon formula for a commission investigation. In the beginning, both Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell went along to negotiate with the Democrats because they assumed the Democrats might not accept their conditions (See video below); but when Pelosi did, both men were caught with their pants down. Today, the despicable duo stand against the January 6 Commission because it would certainly unravel the roles many in the Republican Party played to support the Trump political coup. They can’t have that.

Both McConnell and McCarthy showed their true colors when they announced their refusal to support the bipartisanship commission. The despicable duo are realizing the Commission would have to investigate Trump and his allies in Congress, something they would rather sweep under the carpet.

The hypocrisy of both men makes you wonder whether our nation will ever survive another insurrection. In fact, their actions empower Trump and his ilk to dismantle our democracy. How is that for patriotism!

The 35 Republicans voting for the Commission shows a crack that I hope might turn into a deluge.

MORE REPUBLICANS ARE ON-BOARD

As the House voted on legalizing the January 6 Commission, 35 Republicans voted for the law. That’s more than three times the number of Republicans who voted for impeachment. A big surprise for both sides. Personally, I credit Rep. Liz Cheney for this success. Her leadership is nudging the conscious of many Republicans who fell asleep the last six months.

Strangely enough, Kevin McCarthy, who led the charge against the vote for the Commission was absent from the floor of the House during the vote. The coward could not even face the small defeat he suffered. This, in my opinion, shows just how little respect he commands among his fellow members. He is a sad story of mediocrity.

The 35 Republicans also sent a signal to Donald Trump that I hope he understood. That if the Commission finds him guilty of treason, his supporters might begin to peel away from his magnetic hold, which would spark the beginning of his end as a political figure. Falling from grace, or shame in this instance, would ultimately destroy his personae because of so many legal hurdles he still has to maneuver around. The weaker he gets, the more powerful people would pounce on him. The 35 Republicans voting for the Commission shows a crack that I hope might turn into a deluge.

It is also possible, since there is no love lost between Trump and McConnell, that McConnell himself is sending signals that voting for the measure is not a cardinal sin.

THE DESPICABLE DUO STAND AGAINST THE COMMISSION

The Senate is set to vote on the same Commission soon. How many Republicans would cross the line to defeat the filibuster 60-vote rule is anyone’s guess. Suffice to say that the 35 GOP lawmakers may induce at least 10 Senators to ignore McConnell and cross their party line.

It is also possible, since there is no love lost between Trump and McConnell, that McConnell himself is sending signals that voting for the measure is not a cardinal sin. In other words, he wants to stay on Trump’s side publicly, but he also wants the Commission to actually happen hoping it may end Trump’s political career.

If so, this would a McConnell vintage move. Play both sides, both ways, for two wins.

Failing to make the truth public will only embolden the guilty for another attempt on another day while adjusting to the mistakes they made in their first test run.

THE INSURRECTION COMMISSION IS ABOUT INVESTIGATING TRUMP

Anyone who tries to slice and dice the fact that the Insurrection Commission is about investigating Donald Trump and his allies in the GOP would eventually fall on their heads. For history’s sake, America can ill-afford not to get to the bottom of January 6. Failing to make the truth public will only embolden the guilty for another attempt on another day while adjusting to the mistakes they made in their first test run. It’s not an option to let sleeping dogs lie. Especially not when the main character behind January 6 is a political aberration whose treasonous behavior should be of concern to every intelligent American.

Trump must not survive the scrutiny of an independent commission. We must make public his danger to our democracy in ways no one can doubt it.

I find it utterly unacceptable that after a President instigates a mob to attack the Capitol, five months into this attack, we still know so little about what happened. Yes, the videos tell a tale, but we must have answers to who funded the insurrection, which lawmakers were complicit in the violence, who was responsible for blocking the National Guard from deployment, what was the previous one doing during the insurrection, which, we hope, Don McGahn might shed some light on the matter during his testimony if Trump does not interrupt the process by claiming Executive Privilege.

Not withstanding the necessity to answer all these questions, the American people have the right to know who, what, when, and how when it comes to January 6.
