The War Within the War in Ukraine

Many of us see the videos and the images. Many of us read and hear the political analysts and the military experts describe and dissect this war in ways we can all understand. But what we do not know is what goes on behind the war within the war in Ukraine. The one our intelligence services is waging against the Russians in a variety of ways to give the Ukrainians a winning edge.

From intercepting communications to sharing satellite imagery, American technological superiority is most likely playing a remarkable role behind the scenes to force Putin to suffer the consequences of his barbarism. Every American should be proud of how much our intelligence communities are doing to save Ukraine, even though we know so little about it.

I am, for sure.

But what the article does not tell you is how likely that our own NSA intercepts may be playing a role in this defining war.

FOUR DEAD RUSSIAN GENERALS

BBC published online an article describing the clever ways the Ukrainian military has used to target Russian high officers to demoralize their troops. So far, four Russian generals, out of twenty, have been killed on the battlefield.

But what the article does not tell you is how likely that our own NSA intercepts may be playing a role in this defining war. This is total speculation on our part since we have no evidence of this, but it just makes sense that the US is actively helping the Ukrainians behind the scenes with whatever intelligence we can contribute. Remember that our own Intel Community sees Vladimir Putin as our arch enemy. To me, their covert assistance seems logical.

I cannot but be reminded of how many times this community saved us from one disaster after another after 9/11. I cannot but admire the work they do and which we, the public, will never know about. Nor know the courage and bravery it takes to keep us all safe 24/7 around the clock, all the times. No exceptions.

Russia will never be the same after this war.

CODE BREAKING

During WWII, the British broke the German code of Enigma, and the US broke the Japanese naval code, which allowed the US to defeat their Imperial forces.

In the Ukraine instance, it seems the Russian forces are using open channels to communicate. Call it “the not ready for resistance” moment where Putin’s arrogance trumped the reality of wars. Open channels permits more than listening in. It also permits the US to pinpoint the origins of communications. How incompetent are the Russians, heh?

Putin is today facing something he never faced before. When he bombed Grozny to smithereens, the world noticed but was not compelled to act against an internal Russian war. Same goes for Georgia for which the U.S. State Department issued a two-paragraph statement showing concerns.

Then Putin destroyed Aleppo in Syria. Once again, the Obama Administration refused to interfere even though this was the golden opportunity to limit Putin’s savagery against civilians.

After all these wars, Putin believed he could simply just cookie cut his way through other countries. But to his surprise, the world responded in a different fashion and with much resolve to stop him in his tracks this time around; and it is shocking to everyone how easy it has been to slowly demolish Putin’s war machine.

Russia will never be the same after this war. Everything it gained in its Syrian war in terms of military showoff, it lost in one week in the Ukraine. It goes to show you that the West fear of Russia is overblown and overestimated.

It also goes to show the whole world how brave the Ukrainians are. Glory to Ukraine and glory to our intelligence community.
