Trump Is a Smaller Problem Than His Voters

Within the context of the life of Donald Trump, beginning 2015 has amply demonstrated one indelible fact. While the world concentrates on his personae and his sickening behavior, we are missing a much larger picture staring us in the face and which deals with his fanatic followers. Trump is a smaller problem than his voters because the majority of them actually believe the lies he utters and refuse to dig deep to fully grasp his danger to the republic. That’s the real issue in America today.

Most of his voters are significantly less educated Americans, and many of whom can hardly read an intelligent assessment of the crimes he committed. And if we had to guess, fewer than fingers on a hand have read the full indictment of Jack Smith.

There is no doubt that Trump is a danger to this country, but a bigger danger is his voters who refuse to accept the facts. Instead, they listen to his lies and take them for gospel. Under the First Amendment, Trump could lie for the rest of his miserable life, and there is not much the law can do about it.

THE GOP FOLLOWS THE VOTES

If Trump voters had any common sense and realized the con Trump is subjecting them too, it would help whip the larger GOP community in Congress and in the Senate to behave with as much concern as the Democrats.

But because their votes matter to those in power, almost the whole GOP structure is kowtowing to their ignorance by discounting Trump’s danger. That the GOP behavior may weaken the Constitution seems not to be of concern to many elected officials. Their only concern is to hold on to their seats in Congress, and to hell with the country.

History is not going to be kind to the 116th, 117th, and possibly beyond sessions of Congress. The facts behind the cowardice and the selfishness of the MAGA Republicans will adorn American library shelves like Corin Tellado’s 4,000 novels adorn Spanish=speaking libraries today. There will be hundreds of them.

The cult-like phenomenon of Trump holds millions of American voters by their necks. It seems that he is not willing to let go of his stranglehold, no matter the costs to his freedom and life. In fact, it’s this stranglehold he believes will eventually save him either through a successful run for the White House, or the fear he can instill into those safeguarding our democracy.

So far, though, neither seems a certainty. Neither is a guaranteed success Trump can 100% rely upon to save his skin.
