What is Wrong With America? Money Buys Our Politicians Legally

What is wrong with America these days? Our country has not been the same for over 40 years. Whether it’s the assault on democracy, lawless capitalism that is killing the middle class, or more guns than people, this nation is on a steep decline politically and socially. In the meantime, our elected politicians intentionally drive it to the ground with their brutal, bigoted, and boorish conservatism.

From one political gridlock to another, from experimenting with gerrymandering to extreme gerrymandering, and from one economic crisis to another, we are a nation that has lost its soul. Why? Because we have a system of government that permits money to buy our politicians legally. It’s a corrupt political system of Quid Pro Quo like no other country.

And the more money circulates, the more corrupt we become. Our own wealth is our own worst enemy considering the laws we have in place, or the laws we refuse to pass because it may impact the profits of a corporation. Blood-soaked profits.

Americans are getting angrier by the day, yet the Republican Party seems to ignore the will of the majority of the people. Why? Because it’s corporate money that get them elected, not our anger, combined with corrupt laws, to throw them out of office.

All those Republican Senators blocking sensible legislation to solve the problem of mass killings at schools are bought and sold like cattle by the gun manufacturers of America.

SINCE WHEN VOTERS ARE POWERLESS IN A DEMOCRACY?

The voters in this supposed great nation are powerless when it comes to its legislative agenda; only the corporations, the billionaires, and the lobbyists decide what laws pass. These corporations, in cohort with the most despicable politicians on the planet, is what caused the Uvalde mass murder in the first place.

Just imagine a nine-year child that could only be identified through DNA to understand the horrific barbarism of buying and using a weapon only soldiers in standing armies should possess. Our politicians are for sale and the corporate world buys them on the cheap to serve their interests, not ours. This is why the mass killings of our children at Robb Elementary took place.

All those Republican Senators blocking sensible legislation to solve the problem of mass killings at schools are bought and sold like cattle by the gun manufacturers of America. If we reform our elections finance laws to block such barbarity, our nation could find its virtuous compass again. But until then, expect extreme greed and disregard for human dignity to control every facet of our politics to the detriment of our own existential future.

Americans should visit the really civilized countries in Europe. Maybe then they would consider calibrating their positions on our greatness.

THE FACE OF BARBARISM

Most Americans don’t read about what other really civilized nations think of us. If they did, they would be truly shocked of how little respect and admiration these countries have of our political system. Gone are the days where being an American was cool. Today, for example, most Europeans believe we are a nation of true savages.

Americans cemented this notion of savagery when we elected a demonic and unhinged racist to become our 45th President. Suddenly, it dawned on the world how magnified the fissures of our divisions were below the surface.

Fifty years ago, the world admired our Coca-Cola, blue Jeans, and cool surfing cultures. Today, all they see is our violence and the barbarity of our politicians. Yes, the same politicians who are trying to return us to the days of back alley abortions, religious extremism that make look us like a country of Christian Taliban, student loans that are mortgaging the future of our own children, and uncontrollable gun laws that kill those children at the tender ages of nine. While in a classroom, mind you.

What is wrong with America? We have become a nation of extreme greed and lawless capitalism. In this great nation of ours, money trumps human life and dignity. We tender our value system like we tender a dollar bill.

Americans should visit the really civilized countries in Europe. Maybe then they would consider calibrating their positions on our greatness. Maybe then we would realize that letting 18-years old buy weapons destined for theaters of war does not really make us a great nation anymore.

Rather, it makes us look like a nation of bigoted barbarians trying, with a wig and a Republican dose of lipstick on a pig, to pass for civilized.
