Sanctions are usually understood to be a one-way street concept. We sanction a country by revoking its abilities to sell its products and services in ours, or elsewhere. In reality, though, sanctions are a two-way affair because America sells its products and services to the sanctioned country as well, and these are the sanctions we forgot to apply against Russia. The ones leveled against our own for continuing to sell their goods and services to the Putin regime despite the global outrage over Russian barbarism in Ukraine.
The thing is that the United States does not sanction its own. It’s not good for the stock market. But consumers, on the other hand, can apply their own sanctions against brands that are encouraging the Ukrainian war by refusing to leave the Russian market.
Who are these companies, some of us buy their products from directly, that we could sanction directly should the Biden Administration refuse to call them out.
Who needs to travel on an airline whose empathy for humankind is worth less than transferring three rimes a week the ladies of the nights to satisfy the depravity of the UAE leadership?
SUBWAY BURGER KING BOSE AND EMIRATES AIRLINES
As of today, there are 29 national and international companies that are refusing to leave the Russian market. Many of which the global community could boycott. Four big consumer companies come to mind in Subway, Burger King, Bose, and the UAE-based Emirates Airlines.
When CNN asked Subway why it is continuing its operations in Russia, it took us for fools when it responded in this manner:
A 10-year old knows that a franchisor makes its money by selling its know-how to its franchisees in the form of supplies and services. A company can just refuse to ship their products in support of their franchisees backing a brutal war against the innocent. Burger King gave a similar answer. Subway and Burger King continued operations in Russia encourages Putin to keep killing innocent civilians at will.
Bose supplies the NFL with its gear. Should not the NFL athletes protest the use of their products? Theirs are soaked with the blood of innocent Ukrainian women and children.
The same goes for Emirates Airlines. Who needs to travel on an airline whose empathy for humankind is worth less than transferring three times a week the Moscovite ladies of the nights to satisfy the depravity of the UAE leadership?
When it comes to political interference in our democracy, no one is more evil than Charles Koch.
THE DARK MONEY OF CHARLES KOCH. AGAIN.
Koch Industries, run by Charles Koch, is another U.S. company with its web of dark money influencing our elections in support of their lawless capitalism. Today, Koch Industries is refusing to leave Russia. No surprise there. Read about the evil of Charles Koch killing our democracy in this Blog.
Since Koch Industries is really a far-right Republican outlet. The Biden Administration must find a way to pressure the company to abandon its Russian operations. It’s time for our President to show some Chutzpah in the face of those who, not only find the killing of women and children in Ukraine acceptable, but also who flaunt our voting rights by circumventing our democracy through their dark money contributions. Often against causes that help the American people like the Affordable Healthcare Act.
When it comes to political interference in our democracy, no one is more evil than Charles Koch.
Today, this evil rears its ugly head again with its contribution to the Putin regime in Russia by refusing to abandon, or even to suspend, Koch Industries operations. A Trumpist move, if you ask me.
These are the sanctions we forgot to apply against Russia, which contribute to the war in Ukraine. The President could shame them all by calling each one by name to abandon their support of Putin.
But will he do it? We all know the answer to this question.
