What happens when few greedy money lenders, corrupt legislators, and selfish college deans get together? The combination becomes an army of extortionist vampires sucking the life out of our children. Those blood sucking monsters are doing what no army could do to ancient Rome, which is to defeat the fabric of its civilization. Forget the dumb QAnon conspiracy. Student debt is the largest real American conspiracy ever concocted by banks and money lenders. It has netted the corrupt three conspirators so far over $1,787,000,000,000 in revenues at the expense of the economic health of two generations of young Americans and counting.
Sallie Mae, a publicly-traded company (SLM), is the largest lender of student loans. The company has been destroying American lives for over 30 years in cohort with education institutions and mostly Republican legislators cloaked in catch phrases like “small government” and “fiscal responsibility”. Not the fiscal responsibilities of our children, I can assure you. Do you want a real conspiracy to sink your teeth in, try the conspiracy between money lenders, legislators, and education institutions that cost 44 millions of our children over $1.7 trillion.
But why in hell, my education did not cost me more than $3,600 in late 70’s, when it costs my children up to $60,000 a year in early 2000’s? The same education, the same buildings, the same teachers, and the same lousy dorms.
WATCH IT AND WEEP
Represent.us, a grassroots organization fighting our corrupt Congress, has produced a video starring the affable and genial actor Ed Helms, to highlight its impact on our society. A must see video you can watch below:
The politician that Ed Helms failed to mention in the video who told the money lenders that “Know that I have all of you in my two trusted hands” is none other than John A. Boehner, the GOP Congressman and Chairman of the Education Committee at the time in 2005. As I said, student debt is the largest real American conspiracy bar none.
Now, I am not this die-hard socialist who believes everything should come free. But why in hell, when I went to school at The American University in Washington DC, my education did not cost me more than $3,600 in late 70’s and early eighties, when it costs my children between $40,000 and $60,000 a year in the first ten years of 2000? The same education, the same buildings, the same teachers, and the same lousy dorms.
It’s OK to pay for college education, but not when it mortgages the future of our children and drown them in debt they cannot dismiss except through years of payment or death. It is the only debt no bankruptcy can discharge. How is that for rigging our system?
Why is it that Congress cannot produce such analysis to predict the pulse of the nation? Is it because they are too busy loaning out their trusted hands to big corporate lobbyists?
BUT THEN, WHAT’S WRONG WITH FREE EDUCATION?
Mind you, on the other hand, it is appealing to think that colleges in Europe are free from tuition. A French student can, with the right grades, study at the Sorbonnes in Paris and come out at the end as well-educated as any American student, if not better, and free of debt. Why is that bad for America? Do we have to take capitalism to such an extreme that it destroys the fabric of our country?
Remember that in 30 years an education that cost $3,600 a year jumped to $60,000 a year. That’s almost 17 times the cost. Did your salary increase by 17 times in 30 years?
Unless we hold Congress accountable in serving the people who voted for them, greed is not going to circle the wagons and disappear. The modality of interaction between Congress and big business is not sustainable as anger grows in this country; and when anger grows, it manifests itself in all forms. Some of which we witnessed on January 6, 2021.
It seems, however, that Congress is not getting the message. Not yet, at least.
The Pentagon has several departments whose job is to analyze today’s theaters for metastasizing threats that may happen in the future. Why is it that Congress cannot produce such analysis to predict the pulse of the nation? Is it because they are too busy loaning out their trusted hands to big corporate lobbyists?
So what is the next stop for the vampires? What can they do to drown those between the ages of 10 and 18 in debt as well?
STUDENT DEBT IS THE LARGEST REAL AMERICAN CONSPIRACY
Think about this idea. People who take home mortgages are in their late twenties, early thirties. Usually because they have secure jobs and they settled in a life of working and living their dreams. Similarly, along with a house also comes a car and a loan.
But it used to be that Americans between the ages of 18 and late twenties had no loans to break their back until they settled down. Why should a large portion of the population go debt-free, asked the blood-sucking money lenders? What can we do about it to drown them in debt the way we drowned America in credit card debt, car loans debt, and mortgages?
This is how conspiracies are born. Out of need, out of greed, and out of creed given their raison d’être.
So what is the next stop for the vampires? What can they do to drown those between the ages of 10 and 18 in debt as well? If you think someone, right now, is not sitting in some back room trying to figure this problem out, then you are more naive than a surfer riding the waves in shark-infested waters.
Repeat after me: Greed is awful, greed destroys lives, greed is unAmerican.
