Today, America stands at a crossroads. The choices are to either ignore the web of corruption our Congress and legislators suffer from as they ignore the will of the people, or to correct our trajectory by passing the HR-1 legislation our country depends upon to survive as a vibrant democracy. It’s HR-1 or Bastille, and from the look of it, unlike France, our Bastille would usher American fascism and dictatorship.
HR-1 does not go far enough to fix all the ills of our corrupt government, but it will absorb some of the anger that has been percolating beneath the surface in tens of millions of Americans who have lost faith in their Congress. Without HR-1, however, our nation’s decline will accelerate towards a point of no return. This is how dire the situation has become.
Think about it. Americans voted for Donald Trump to protest against the establishment in both political parties. If that is not the signal for this country to change direction quickly, then maintaining the status quo leading us to an iceberg will sink us all.
We are tired of the political corruption and the vast inequalities across many layers of our society.
HERE IS A SNAPSHOT OF HR-1
The video below, produced by Lawrence Lessig of Equal Citizens, explains in layman’s terms the overall purpose of HR-1. A must see video for one’s education and activism.
WHAT IS BASTILLE?
The historical text below captures the essence of the day the French stormed La Bastille de Saint Antoine, which happened during the reign of Marie-Antoinette and her husband King Louis XVI in 1789. For those enthusiasts of history, 1789, in the United States, was also the year the text of the Constitution substituted the earlier “The Articles of Confederation” signed by the first 13 unions.
That fateful day on July 14, 1789 killed the French monarchy for good. And although a famine that began in 1788 sparked the French Revolution, one can attribute, if HR-1 does not pass, as our year of famine in this country. We are tired of the political corruption and the vast inequalities across many layers of our society. If HR-1 does not pass, we would be heading towards our own reckoning in the form of an American reverse Bastille from a republic to a dictatorship.
This is why AOC is driving the Republicans bananas. She is single-handedly peeling their skin away to show the full disgusting rot festering inside.
AMERICA STANDS AT A CROSSROADS
The Republican Party is resisting HR-1 (S-1 in the Senate), which Mitch McConnell has refused to bring to the floor for a vote during his tenure as Majority Leader of the Senate. Why? Because the bill clips the wings of big business and the billionaires funding our elections and whose interests the GOP serve well. Without their money, the GOP would have to rely on the people to fund their campaigns. This means they would have to serve the interests of the people now. An idea the GOP finds to be antithetical to their own self-interests.
The status quo cannot continue. There is just too much anger bubbling slowly to the surface like lava to a volcano. Support HR-1 by contacting your Representative.
Corporate America likes the notion that it owns Congress. As such, the big corporate entities are not about to let the people interfere in recuperating a Congress designed to work for the people in the first place. One of those far right entities lobbying against HR-1 is Freedom Works, which is backed by big corporate money.
Who supports Freedom Works? Senator Ted Cruz. Yup, the same guy who abandoned his constituents in the freezing cold of Texas for few days on the beach while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New Yorker, raised $4m to help the people of Texas. Talk about scoring points.
This is why AOC is driving the Republicans bananas. She is single-handedly peeling their skin away to show the full disgusting rot festering inside.
It’s either HR-1 or American Bastille. We the people must choose.
CORPORATE AMERICA SIMPLY DON’T CARE
Another opposition called “United for Privacy”, also a far-right group funded by big corporate entities, is opposing HR-1. The campaigns will only grow more contentious and more venomous as the Democrats try to introduce the bill in Congress.
Even with all the turmoil facing our country, all the income inequalities, the racism, and the anger burning a hole in our democracy, corporate America seems oblivious to the ills it hampered our society with.
One would think that if our democracy is unalterably under attack, the big companies would realize that it is not in their best interests that the people rise against their own government and spark a an anti-capitalist revolution. They are all counting on the stupidity of most voters to retain control of their destinies at the expense of the American people.
It’s either HR-1 or an American reverse Bastille from a republic to a dictatorship. We the people must choose.
