Boot Russia Out of the United Nations

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia of war crimes as Vladimir Putin bombs hospitals, schools, and civilian apartment buildings. Just as he did before in Chechnya, Georgia, and Syria. The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced it will open an investigation into war crimes against humanity. The problem is that Russia has withdrawn from the ICC Treaty, which means any punitive resolutions against Russia at the Security Council are subject to the Russian veto. Unless we boot Russia out of the United Nations, punishing Putin and the criminals that are attacking Ukraine would almost be impossible.

Think about it. The United Nations Security Council has a member whose very own existence forms the basis for the insecurity of the other member nations. Yet, here they all sit pretending Russia is a member worthy of joining their table. They all let the bully Vladimir Putin wage war after war every few years to re-create his evil Russian empire.

Did you know that today’s White House is asking lawyers to review time-sensitive intelligence that could help the Ukrainians fight back? Pretty much useless by the time the Ukrainians get them?

BOOT RUSSIA OUT OF THE UNITED NATIONS

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, a new entity, much different in size, political format, new borders, and purpose was born. The United States should have booted the Russian Federation out of the United Nations back then under the pretext it was a new country. We should have asked the new Russia to re-apply for membership again.

Not that it might have been successful, but that was our best chance. During a time when Russia was weak and mattered little.

Because it did not happen, many have argued, Russia’s membership at the United Nations is, therefore, illegitimate. This should be reason enough for the U.N. to ban, collectively, Russia and make her membership obsolete. How can we hold the mass murderer Putin accountable for his crimes in Ukraine, or in any future war he wages on other peaceful countries, if Russia vetoes these U.N. resolutions? It’s a joke.

Today, the world is watching Russia change the world order right under our nose. Nothing, now that sanctions have been slapped, will deter Putin from invading other countries knowing there is no will on the part of the United States or Europe to fight back with fire and brimstone.

That’s our unfortunate reality.

Booting Russia out of the United Nations is the first step to containing the danger this rogue country has projected, through its actions, for over 100 years.

WAR AS AN INSTRUMENT OF POLICY

Modern warfare has changed and its tools of engagement have expanded. While Russia engages in traditional warfare against the Ukraine, the United States and Europe fight back by using economic sanctions. In retaliation, Russia is probably cyber attacking the U.S. and Europe as we speak; while spewing misleading propaganda on social media.

Modern wars are about guns, sanctions, cyber warfare, and social media propaganda.

This new era of warfare is upon us for good, and civilized nations must complement through a policy of isolation, not only at the economic level, but also on policy and security. Russia remaining a member of the world community in the United Nations dilutes our responses to the classic warfare of pure violence.  One way is by having no abilities to hold war criminals accountable for their crimes. A Russian veto kills those efforts.

Not if we boot Russia out of the United Nations. The country and its leadership has become a danger to all humanity. Just as its revolutions submitted the masses to economic and political slavery across its own territories and eastern Europe. Modern post-Lenin Russia has been a danger to the whole globe. In many ways using different methodologies.

Booting Russia out of the United Nations is the first step to containing the danger this rogue country has projected, through its actions, for over 100 years.

Barring that, maybe an alternative scenario, which China might agree to implement, would be to pass a Resolution to limit the number of Russian vetoes to three a year. In this case, the fourth is a charm.
