In the next few weeks, Americans must decide whether they want the super rich and the super powerful to continue to placate the masses through spin and misinformation in order to keep their choke hold unto our political and economic order, or to take control of their destiny by demanding that their voting rights be protected from scurrilous acts of cowardice. We are entering an era of dark money intentionally killing the Freedom to Vote Act, a legislation that limits the reach of the billionaires and the extremists in the Republican Party.
When corporate funding of your representative turns their votes against your interests, then we live in a flawed democracy, not a real one. Your representative is supposed to vote for the same policies you elected them for, and not some entity paying them off to vote for their own self interests, which often clash with the voters’ needs and wishes.
This is why the Progressive Caucus in Congress has become so popular. Their members refuse to take money tainted with demands that are counterproductive to the needs of their voters.
BILLIONAIRES BUYING CONGRESS
When anonymous billionaires buy votes in Congress to vote down the Freedom to Vote Act legislation, then our democracy is a fake one. The people are not the ones deciding what works for them. Some moron who thinks he owns this country is deciding because of their ability to buy the same representatives we voted into office. Just ask Charles Koch.
What do you call a system when one man decides the fate of millions of people? Dare we say that under our veneer of capitalism lurks the methodology and fingerprints of communist elitism? Yes, you read it right. We are a capitalist-communist country. Very few rich people control the masses. In the Old Soviet Union, very few powerful politicians controlled the masses. The same difference if not for the money factor.
This is why the Progressive Caucus in Congress has become so popular. Their members refuse to take money tainted with demands that are counterproductive to the needs of their voters. This is why Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are so popular in this country. They have been able to tap into a mass movement that also funds their campaigns. Albeit one that is unwilling to fund the likes of Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin who rely on corporate money while yielding to its demands.
Not every legislator is up for sale. But those who are selling their souls are too lazy to try and rally their constituents to fund their campaigns. It is far easier to say “yes” to a lobbyist and get thousands of dollars in one swoop than knock on doors, through grass roots energy, to reap the benefits a mass following affords them.
As if his $60 billions in net worth is not enough to retire upon.
DARK MONEY INTENTIONALLY KILLING THE FREEDOM TO VOTE ACT
In the aftermath of the Republican assaults on voting rights around the country, the British Guardian newspaper published an article it entitled “Right wing lobbies and dark money funders backing assaults on voting rights” in which this paragraph said it all:
Yes, folks. Charles Koch is trying to buy our elections with his money. Universal healthcare might impact his businesses, which justifies his actions and to hell with millions of Americans who need it. As if his $60 billions in net worth is not enough to retire upon.
Anyway, the man is on the verge of his grave, and I truly believe the country would fare much better once Koch meets his maker.
Good riddance, I say.
