In the aftermath of the insurrection of January 6 during which the crowd that Donald Trump incited to attack the Capitol chanted “Hang Mike Pence“, the Vice-President still refuses to invoke the 25th Amendment of the Constitution to remove Trump from office. Even though we know now that Trump incited the mob by tweeting against his own VP during the storming of his troops. To some, this is loyalty, but to many Vice President Mike Pence is the ultimate wimp.
Donald Trump knew who to pick as his Vice-President. Someone who is as spineless as they come and whose timidity and fear today is making many Americans cringe.
Here is something to tell your children while growing up “Son, you can achieve much in life, but what I don’t want you to become is another Mike Pence.”
That’s the advice of a great father, in my opinion.
Pence, deep down, might believe he can corral Trump’s supporters for his own Presidential ambitions in the years to come.
DOES PENCE BELIEVE HE COULD REPLACE TRUMP?
This author believed he saw the ultimate ‘spineless’ elected official the day President Barack Obama backtracked on his red line in Syria. However, the fact that Pence still refuses to follow through with his powers to protect the country after Trump sent Insurrectionists to attack him takes the first prize in the ‘spineless’ category. Loyalty is something, but what pence demonstrated is utter fear of Trump that makes him the ultimate spineless.
Some think it’s wimpiness (i.e. this author), others believe it’s pure loyalty. But there is a third school of thought that is emerging to explain Pence’s lack of action on the 25th Amendment front.
Pence, deep down, might believe he can corral Trump’s supporters for his own Presidential ambitions in the years to come. He may be calculating that the task of stopping Trump from running in 2024 should fall on someone else’s shoulders, which would provide him the deniability he needs to harness Trump’s supporters. This modicum of a strategy is not only shortsighted, but also illogical.
No one can replace Trump with regard to his supporters. His racism, streak of white nationalism, and bigotry is unique. Add his untenable and brash bullying personality and you are producing a Frankenstein that mankind never experienced before.
Domestic terrorism is no longer a fringe threat. January 6 demonstrated its potency and menace to our democracy.
DOMESTIC TERRORISM IS NO LONGER A FRINGE THREAT
There were times in the past when the FBI considered domestic terrorism as a threat. Especially in the aftermath of Timothy McVeigh’s 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in which 168 people died. However, since 9/11, the U.S. concentrated all its focus on international terrorism even though the FBI warned us in 2006 that the White Supremacists were infiltrating law enforcement across the country.
Then came Donald J. Trump’s remark on Charlottesville in which he lauded the White Supremacists and Nazis by calling them “Fine people”. During what the Nazis dubbed as Unite the Right rally, one domestic terrorist plowed his car into a crowd killing an innocent woman named Heather Heyer protesting against the bigotry and racism of the Klansmen and White Supremacists assembled that day.
After the Insurrection of the Capitol on January 6, it has become obvious to many that domestic terrorism is a clear and present danger the U.S. Government better pay attention to its threat. If we don’t uproot it, it will uproot U.S. democracy and leads this country back to slavery days.
