Why do Americans have to accept the normalization of our political landscape now baked in lies and deceptions? Considering we call our Representatives “Honorable” so and so, many don’t deserve our respect let alone calling them “Honorable”. If you read our detailed history, you would know that our Founding Fathers were men of real honor. They did not lie and cheat because it brought great shame and dishonor unto their reputation. So what would our Framers think of today’s lying and cheating politicians roaming the halls of Congress?
Take someone like Senator Ted Cruz. Do you think he would have been elected to office in late 18th century? Not on your life. He would have been booted out on the streets like the clown that he is. So why is the American people tolerant of dishonorable men who would say and do anything to get elected? The answer is simple: Because they can. Because they know that the people electing them don’t have too much time to look into their records, so they rely on TV sound bites to make their choices. As far as anyone can see, it’s the combination of BS on the part of Ted Cruz and the lack of judgment on the part of his voters.
At the end of the day, Ted Cruz is in office because his voters have not bothered to investigate the man they are about to elect. The blame falls squarely on the voters in this country.
Why do you think the American culture is so permissive when it comes to accepting the abnormal as normal? Is it because, in Baseball, it is a good thing to “steal” a base?
LYING IS THE BASIC STANDARD OF COMMUNICATIONS
Today, it is getting so bad that lying has become the standard by which legislators communicate with their constituents. Take Governor Cuomo’s of New York latest fiasco. He is just another example of men who lie so naturally to make our Framers blush with shame. But if you really get into their minds, often they are sorry. Not for lying, but for getting caught lying. What would our framers think? That’s how bad it has become.
Honor is not what it used to be. Today’s politicians and captains of industry lie all the time and it seems we still put them on pedestals and admire them for their acumen. The public no longer holds our heroes accountable for what they say or do. What matters, often, is what they have accomplished regardless of how they got there.
Why do you think the American culture is so permissive when it comes to accepting the abnormal as normal? Is it because, in Baseball, it is a good thing to “steal” a base? In one of the most American of sports, we defined its influence on our culture by acutely accepting that “stealing” is OK by our moral standards. No wonder corporations and politicians lie, cheat, and steal and seem normal to the rest of us.
Often, we know when someone is lying to us, but we have no way of verifying their lies until a whistleblower steps up to the plate. Shame on a culture that relies on whistleblowers to learn the truth instead of relying on men of deep honor and moral fortitude to speak the truth all the time, and on every occasion. What would framers think? That’s how I deeply feel about it.
Getting accustomed to politicians lying and cheating to become as normal as brushing one’s teeth is breaking any confidence and trust the voters try to build with their politicians. Without which a social breakdown is inevitable.
DONALD TRUMP IS THE KING OF ALL LIARS
The title of this Washington Post article is “In four years, President Trump made 30,573 false or misleading claims”. How would you like to be married to that man, or grow up as his children? For Trump, this is normal. Lying, cheating, and stealing is what he does best and seems to always get away with it with minimum of consequences. The public knew ahead of time about the flaws of his personality, yet, 75 million Americans still voted for him. It’s about “stealing” a base.
And Trump is not the only one. Remember Barack Obama’s “If you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. If you like your plan, you can keep it. Period.” moment?
What about George Bush? He peddled also some egregious lies prior to wage the Iraq War. Like the non-existent Chemical Weapons Saddam possessed.
Getting accustomed to politicians lying and cheating to become as normal as brushing one’s teeth is breaking any confidence and trust the voters try to build with their politicians. Without which a social breakdown is inevitable. This is one reason why Congress approval rating was as low as 15% in December 2020. What would you do if you thought your car is 20% good to own? Exactly.
We have reached a mess of a plateau in this country mostly because our politicians lie, cheat, steal, and we let them get away with it often because they made it the new normal. Should we not fight back by seeking honesty and honor among the “Honorables” we elect? Or maybe we should just adjust accordingly by addressing those who lie to us in this manner:
