For Saudi Arabia, it is not about survival, or self-defense. Nor is it about creating more tensions in the region. For those who know well the map of the Middle East, they know that Israel could not strike Yemen without Saudi help. Why would Saudi Arabia facilitate such a strike has everything to do with the US ordering Mohammad bin Salman to help Israel with its act of terror.
Here is a fact that those on the inside know very well. On many occasions, U.S. diplomats have told their Saudi counterparts, unequivocally, that the local U.S. bases may exist to defend the Kingdom, but they also insinuated that they could be used to mount a coup against the House of Saud. If necessary. A la Panama circa 1989.
So, when Israel expanded its war footprint again to bomb Yemen, it did not happen in a vacuum. Israel, most likely, refueled its F-16 and F-35 squadron of jets in a military base in western Saudi Arabia. The most logical base would be the King Fahad Air Base in Taif. The base sits halfway between Israel and Yemen’s Red Sea shore, where the Hodeidah port calls it home.
Under its present leadership, think of Saudi Arabia as the mare that the stud racing horse will have for the night if he wins his race.
WHAT SAUDI ARABIA SAYS PUBLICLY
Take this paragraph below seriously.
In general, when it comes to foreign policy with the United States, which also indirectly involves Israel, what Saudi Arabia says publicly is exactly 180 degrees the opposite of what it does behind closed doors. Totally clandestinely. The last the leadership of the country wants it known is that they take their marching orders from Jerusalem as well as from Washington.
Even if that means spreading misinformation to show Saudi Arabia has any muscles to flex. In reality, the kingdom coordinates with Israel its anti-Zionist PR ahead of time in order to avoid any misunderstanding. No wonder Iran, a non-Arab country, leads the Arab world.
Under its present leadership, think of Saudi Arabia as the mare that the stud racing horse will have for the night if he wins his race. Both the U.S. and Israel ride that mare as often as they wish. There will never be another King Faisal.
Of course, Saudi Arabia denied assisting Israel to strike Yemen. But given its enmity with Yemen crowned by Saudi intervention in Yemen’s 2014 civil war, Sunni Saudi Arabia is delighted to see the Shia Houthis suffer the humiliation of a Jewish terror attack.
Yes, the Middle East is as complicated as the British intended to become when they drew that region’s borders after World War I and World War II.
The last Mohammad bin Salman wants is to stir the young people of his country, who represent his base of strong support.
BRICS INVOLVEMENT
One has even to question Saudi joining the BRICS+ movement as of January 2024. Is that a move to free themselves from the US-Israeli shackles? Or, are the Saudis a plant inside BRICS+, as a Trojan Horse, to destroy from within.
It is too early to answer that question. Only when Saudi Arabia starts trading, on a large scale, in currencies other than the dollar would we know their true intentions. For the time being, the jury is still out.
On that note, it is hard to imagine that if war breaks out between Yemen and Israel that Saudi Arabia would continue to facilitate aiding and abetting Israel. Iran, which is watching the kingdom like a hawk, will not allow al-Saud to cause damage to their Houthi proxy. Nor would the people of Saudi Arabia, 97% of whom stand by Gaza, allow Mohammad bin Salman to support, over and over, Israeli aggression against Yemen.
Make no mistake about it, the last Mohammad bin Salman wants is to stir the young people of his country, who represent his base of strong support.
