It is hard to imagine a politician telling the truth all the time, but our country has reached a breaking point because our leaders have been lying to us for too long. Lies on one side, like “Stop the Steal”, are producing conspiracy theories on the other side like QAnon. For each big lie, there is a consequence, and our country needs a new Oath of Office to pledge no more peddling of lies so that every elected official in all three branches of our Government commits to taking seriously telling the public the honest truth.
WITNESS THE IMPACT OF TRUMP LIES
Trump has been lying to the American public ever since he became a public figure in 2015. Five years of constant lying has mobilized some 75 million Americans to believe everything he says. It’s a form of brain-washing a cult leader undertakes to subvert our democracy as we have seen happen with Trump.
To pressure our politicians into normal behavior, we must find a way to hold them accountable for the lies they peddle. After the Trump domestic terrorists stormed the capitol, a GOP Congressman from Alabama tweeted the following:
Please, don’t be like #FakeNewsMedia, don’t rush to judgment on assault on Capitol. Wait for investigation. All may not be (and likely is not) what appears. Evidence growing that fascist ANTIFA orchestrated Capitol attack with clever mob control tactics.
Evidence follows:
— Mo Brooks (@RepMoBrooks) January 7, 2021
What was the evidence? Another Congressman telling him there is a growing ANTIFA threat. Mo Brooks must know how stupid the majority of his followers are.
MOUNTAIN OF LIES
He took a big Trump lie and inject a bigger lie on top of it. And they won’t stop until no one knows where it started and where the real truth is hiding in their mountain of lies.
I am tired of politicians lying all the time. Why is it so hard for them to tell us the simple truth?
In Switzerland, 82% of the people trust their own Government, as opposed to 17% in the United States. Why is that? Could it be because the Swiss Government does not lie to their people?
Our elected officials peddling lies has become a habit with deadly consequences for the rest of the country. Did it occur to Rep. Mo Brooks that this is the excuse Trump supporters may need to possibly commit another act of terrorism? Those low-IQ sycophants may just think they have their cover now.
OATH OF OFFICE
The last time the United States changed its Oath of Office, which elected officials must recite, was in 1966. It is prescribed in Title 5, Section 3331 of the United States Code. This is how it reads today.
“I, John Doe, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
How about we inject the following words somewhere?
” .. and I pledge never to lie to the American public ..”
After what Trump has done to our country by splitting it in half because of his lies, Congress has a duty and an obligation, now that it rests in the hands of one political party, to regain the trust of the public. Our politicians have no more excuses not to act.
If the chart below is not a wake-up call, then I am at a loss for words to predict our future.
